About Capo Theatre Arts
The Theater Program at Capistrano Valley High School includes a comprehensive performing arts training. We offer training in Drama, Choir, Pit Orchestra, Stagecraft, and Musical Production. Three levels of Drama are offered including: Drama 1, Advanced Drama, and Actors' Repertory. The after school productions are audition-only but are open to all. Auditions are held during the first week of fall semester for the fall play, and the week before the spring semester for the musical. Capo Theatre Arts Club
The Theatre Arts Club meets once a month in the Blackbox classroom at lunch. Members mingle with other students who are theatre enthusiasts, and attend drama club events like field trips, bonfires, the annual holiday party, the Halloween party, the kickball event, etc. There is no obligation if you are in the club, but you are welcome to, and encouraged to, sign up for crew work for the plays. If you have any questions, email the club advisor, Mrs. Tucker, or ask any of the Board Members listed below.

International Thespian Society

Here at Capo Drama, we are involved in the International Thespian Society. The goal of ITS is to honor student excellence in theatre arts. Upon completing and recording 100 hours of theatre-related activities, a student can opt to be inducted into the ITS, thereby becoming an official, card-carrying Thespian. These theatre-related activities include being in the cast or crew of a play or musical, attending a play or musical, writing a critique of that performance, being on the Executive Drama Board at school, etc., etc. See the form to the left for a more detailed explanation of the Thespian Point System.
CETA
California Educational Theatre Association
Capo Drama is a member of CETA. We enter our fall play as a submission for the Southern California theatre competition, and we attend the festival with about 1,000 other California high school Drama students every January. At the festival, we attend workshops, a professional Comedy Sportz show, and four award-winning high school plays. There are also scholarship competition for aspiring actors/actresses or those who want to go into educational theatre. Cappies
The Cappies is a theatre critque writing program that aims to celebrate high school theatre. Student critics from participating schools attend high school productions, compose reviews and submit them to their Cappies mentors in hopes of being published. OC Cappies works with the Orange County Department of Education and current season student reviews are published on The Orange County Register website. There is also a Tony's style Gala at the end of the year awarding the top-achieving schools, based on their peer reviews.
