Commencement Ceremony Date - July 24, 2020

We will host our 2020 Commencement Ceremony on July 24, 2020 according to the social distancing restrictions that may impact how this ceremony is structured. Our ultimate goal is to host a ceremony as close to our traditional commencement as possible. I understand that some will be unable to attend for a variety of reasons. I will share a form in early June for graduates to indicate if they are unable to make this July ceremony so that we can recognize these students in an alternative way. Every senior deserves to be recognized and honored in whatever way possible given the circumstance.

Cap & Gown Details - Herff Jones

Again Herff Jones will have all items that have been previously ordered available to be picked up on this day. Herff Jones has opened back up their online portal for caps & gowns. If you have not already ordered your cap & gown, you can go to this link to order and they will have your order ready at distribution. If you have any questions prior to June 2nd I am including a link to a page that includes contact information for Tami Larson, our Herff Jones representative.

Senior Item, Regalia & Awards Pickup

In addition to cap & gowns seniors will also pick up a class picture and any awards or regalia they have earned. As a reminder our senior awards video will be posted this Friday, June 29th by 6PM. I will send out additional details on how to access this on Friday.

Textbook, Chromebook, Uniform & Misc. Item Return

Please bring any items that need to still need to be returned including textbooks, Chromebooks, athletic uniforms, or any other miscellaneous items.

Yearbooks

Unfortunately, due to the shutdown of the Herff Jones production factory, our yearbooks will not be arriving before the end of the school year. We are currently working with our representatives on distribution options for seniors only. We will be providing students with a virtual signature program prior to June 4, 2020.

Gradnite Refunds

Gradnite refund checks will be available to pickup for anyone that requested one. Our PTSA Gradnite Chair, Paola Trumbly will be present to distribute the refund checks. The following will be required to pick up a refund check

  • Students will need to bring a photo ID to pick up their check.
  • Students will need to sign an acknowledgment indicating receipt of the refund.

For those who requested Universal Studios tickets they have not arrived yet. Once they arrive Paola Trumbly will personally contact each family to arrange pickup.

I look forward to seeing all of our seniors on June 2nd!

Sincerely,

John Misustin

Good Evening Capo Valley Families,

Below you will find an update regarding graduation, cap and gowns and a senior slideshow reminder.

Graduation Update from CUSD Board of Trustees Meeting

At last week's Capistrano Unified Board of Trustees meeting the following guidance was provided on graduation. This was also sent out in an email by CUSD Chief Communications Officer Ryan Burris.

"High School Principals will use the following guidance to plan for Graduation Ceremonies:

  • Although highly unlikely, if the restrictions in place on May 13, 2020, will accommodate a large group gathering, schools will proceed to hold commencement ceremonies on June 4, 2020.
  • If social distancing restrictions prevent a ceremony on June 4, 2020, schools will commemorate June 4, 2020, with a video presentation recognizing the accomplishments of the class of 2020, and postpone June 4 commencement ceremonies until July 23, 2020.
  • A postponed ceremony on July 23, 2020, would have to adhere to the social distancing restrictions that may allow for larger gatherings in one place at one time.
  • If social distancing restrictions require smaller groups to participate in the ceremony, schools have the flexibility during the week of July 20, 2020, to July 24, 2020, to spread the ceremony over one day or multiple days, if necessary."

Cap & Gowns

Given the guidance above we will wait until May 13th and then will determine Cap & Gown distribution. Based on the guidance above we will have a traditional cap & gown pick up in person or an alternative option that will adhere to the recommended social distancing guidelines at that time. Traditionally cap & gown distribution is scheduled 2 days prior to the actual graduation ceremony.

Senior Slide Show

If you have not done so please upload photos for the senior slide show. We are hoping to have the following on each slide for each senior:

  • A senior or recent photo.
  • A photo of the student when they were a baby or little.
  • A message from their parents/family.

We have created a form for you to submit each of these things for your senior's slide. Please try to upload your photos by Monday, May 11, 2020. Please let me know if you have any questions.
