Congratulations ROP Distinguished Students!
Capistrano Valley had some major winners as the Capistrano Laguna Beach ROP celebrated its' 40th year and its most outstanding students. This year our ceremony was held at San Juan Hills High School on May 12. Scholarship winners from CVHS included Matthew Spector, Entrepreneurial Spirit Award, Sasha Evaristo, Health Sciences Award, Kyle Taylor, ROP Achievement Award and Talon Baker, ROP Achievement Award. These students should be extremely proud to be selected out of over 4,000 students!
ROP Summer School Schedule
The ROP summer school schedule is now available in the Career Center. Students wishing to attend an ROP class this summer should fill out a registration application with Mrs. Deckert in the Career Center. Classes begin the week of June 28th.
College Credit for ROP!
Students who take an ROP course and receive a certificate of completion may be eligible to receive college credit. The ROP has articulation agreements with Saddleback College in Auto Mechanics, Auto Engine, Small Business Management, IT Essentials, Careers in Fashion, Interior Design, Floral Design, Digitial Media1B, Digital Video and Childcare. Students enrolling at Saddleback should present the certificate of completion from their ROP class to their college counselor to obtain credit. If they wish to continue in this field of study they will skip the class that has been identified at Saddleback as a duplication of competencies. They will move to the next level continuing with an advanced class. See Mrs. Deckert in the Career Center if you have questions about articulation.
Summer College Experiences for High School Students
Many colleges offer summer sessions for high school students. These college experiences vary and offer opportunties for students to become acclimated to the college environment, explore specific majors or campuses and some give opportunities for an experience abroad. The flyers and information for these opportunities are available in the Career Center.
ROP Careers in Teaching
The Careers in teaching class will be back on the Capistrano Valley campus for the Fall semester. Careers in teaching is taught cooperatively by two CUSD teachers with years of expertise in this field. This class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-6:00pm. Any student who might be interested in a teaching career would benefit from this class. Sign up with Mrs. Deckert in the career center.
Animal Care is Back!
Animal Care will be offered in the Fall of 2010. Ms. Karen Hartman will be the instructor and the class will meet on Monday and Wednesday from 4:00-7:00pm in room H5. This was not part of the original fall course offerings. If you would like to add this class to your schedule see Mrs. Deckert in the Career Center.
Credit For Your Work Experience!
ROP will be offering three classes in the Fall that will allow you to receive credit for the time you spend on the job. These classes are specific to the type of work you do and are offered to those working in restaurant/food Services, business office and retail sales. You must currently be working to enroll in one of these cooperative technical education classes. Students will be meeting once a week to turn in time sheets and have instruction related to skills needed at their work site. Students will be guided on how to be promoted on the job and how to cope with situations in the work environment. This class is ten credits per semester and may be taken for two semesters.
