Capo Drama Student Named Disney Luminary

In conjunction with its 60th Anniversary celebration, Disneyland created a program called Disneyland Resort Dreamers and Doers.

Dreamers and Doers aims to "celebrate the power of possibility and recognize the youth who take action to improve their community, home, or school". On February 20th, the Anaheim resort hosted a banquet for 60 "Shining Stars" (impactful students from various Orange County high schools). Out of these 60 students, six exceptional "Luminaries" were selected.  Capistrano Valley High School is excited to announce that senior Madison Null was named a Disney Luminary.

Each Luminary was given a weekend stay at the Disneyland Resort as well as the privilege of selecting an Orange County non-profit to receive a $3,000 donation. This money is intended to help the chosen non-profit continue its efforts in strengthening the community, conserving nature, helping people live healthier, or encouraging them to think creatively.

Madison herself is an individual who embodies many of these qualities. She thinks creatively and strengthens her community by helping people live in a healthy manner. As treasurer of the CVHS Awareness Club, Madison works regularly to promote positive body images on her campus. Her club tries to make students aware of issues like eating disorders,  sexual assault and domestic violence, and self-harm; the club's belief is that knowledge can be a powerful tool in preventing these dangerous scenarios. Recently, Madison cast and directed a production called "Eat: It's Not About Food". Her show was performed five times, allowing hundreds of students to hear its important message.

A true example of service and out of the box thinking, Madison is wonderful representative of Capistrano Valley and a worthy recipient of this prestigious honor.

Auditions for Spring Musical

Spring Musical INFO MEETING Wednesday, December 16th in the Blackbox at lunch.  Come and find out about the musical auditions, what it takes to be in a musical, the plot of the show, etc, etc.  Feel free to ask questions as well.  There is no obligation to audition, it's just an informal, informational meeting.

Auditions will be January 6-8, after school.

Wednesday 1/6:  Dance Workshop.  Come learn the audition dance from our choreographer, so you can practice that night.

Thursday 1/7:  Lead auditions (singing and acting), Ensemble audition (singing)

Friday 1/8:  Dance Auditions and Callbacks for Leads

Preparation:

-Learn and practice the audition dance

-Find, practice, and bring in 2 copies of 16 bars of sheet music from a musical (not Addams Family, not pop music)

-If you are auditioning for a lead, find and rehearse a 30 second-60 second monologue (not from Addams Family or from TV/Movies)     which displays your acting ability, and convinces us that you can be the character you are auditioning for.  Find monologues in Mrs. Tucker's monologue books, or online.  Remember, this show is a comedy (a dark comedy--so show us your sarcasm and your confidence.  Have fun with it!)

-Bring in your Audition Contract (pick one up at the Info Meeting or from Mrs. Tucker)

Any questions?  Come to the Info Meeting, or ask Mrs. Tucker in person or via email.

Getting rid of Halloween decorations this year? We want them!!!

Capistrano Valley Performing Arts is producing The Addams Family for our Spring Musical this year.  It is a ghoulishly gothic tale of a family who lives in a haunted mansion, and enjoys wreaking havoc on "normal" people.  If you are considering getting rid of your Halloween decorations, or if you'd like to take advantage of the clearance sales at Halloween stores/Michaels/Hobby Lobby/etc., please consider donating them to us!!  Bring any items to Mrs. Tucker's classroom (the Blackbox) on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays.  See the list below for details.  (Items we don't need are anything specifically Halloweeny such as pumpkins, candy corn, etc.)

  • Candelabras
  • Flickering candles
  • Cobwebs
  • Graveyard head stones
  • White face make-up
  • Spiders
  • One gigantic spider (the size of someone’s back)
  • Metal (or metal-looking) goblets and chalices and dinnerware
  • Gothic decorations
  • Gothic furniture (twin bed, small couch, side table)
  • Material to create a 10 ft tall wrought iron gate
  • Material to create a 20 ft tall oak tree
  • Fake cross bow
  • Traditional Addams Family costumes (See attached picture)

Thanks so much for your help, and be sure to put the show on your calendars for April 20-23 2016.
