Auditions for Actors' Rep and Advanced Drama Class
On June 4th, after school in the Black Box (room T-124) we will be holding auditions for next year's Actors' Repertory class, as well as Advanced Drama class. In order to audition for Actors' Rep, you should have already taken either Drama 1 and/or Advanced Drama with me. In order to audition for Advanced Drama, you should have Drama experience elsewhere (middle school, community theater, or maybe your family is a supporter of the arts and you've seen a bunch of plays). If you have been in my Drama 1 class previously, you do not need to audition for Advanced Drama (you can automatically add into the class).
Here's what you will need to prepare beforehand:
Advanced Drama: a one minute monologue written for the stage, in a published book. In other words, please do not write your own monologue or perform a monologue written by a buddy. Also, do not perform a monologue from a movie or TV show. We all love Frozen, but doing Elsa's monologue is not a way to prove to me that you belong in an Advanced High School Drama class. :)
Actors' Rep: 2 one minute monologues. See above for rules about where to get them. Make sure that the monologues are contrasting, so that they demonstrate your acting range. For example, choose one from a Shakespeare tragedy, and one from a modern comedy. Or, one from a 1940s Drama, and one from a modern Theatre of the Absurd comedy. Again, demonstrate range.
For both, please make sure that you meet the time limit (a monologue that is not long enough shows that you didn't prepare or that you rushed, and a monologue that is too long shows that you don't care about your director's directions, or the time of your fellow auditioners). Please show up before 3pm, and be prepared to stay until 4:30 (although you will be allowed to leave as soon as you've finished your audition).
I look forward to meeting/working with you all. Please let me know if you have any questions. I promise I don't bite. :)

Fall Play Auditions
Auditions for the fall play are Thursday, September 19th from 3pm-6:30pm in the Black Box Theater. Auditions are open to everyone, whether you've been in a thousand plays, or you've only acted for your parents when you "promised" them that you didn't have any homework to do. Come to the Audition Workshop on Monday after school to get details. In the meantime, here's some info for ya:
Play: Vacancy in Paradise by John Kirkpatrick
Roles: 10 female, 5 male
Preparation: you can bring your own comedic 2 minute monologue from a different play, or come to the workshop to get a monologue from the show.
Auditions: Be prepared by practicing a comedic character (body language, voice, behavior, costume, etc.), slate properly before auditions (announce your name with confidence), do a little research on the play (Google it), don't be late, be polite and have good sportsmanship.
Contract: Pick up an audition contract at the workshop or from Ms. H. (Mrs. Tucker's sub)
Other details: the play is a 7th period class, so make sure that you are able to add it to your schedule (if you are in a sport that practices during 7th period, most likely you won't be able to be in the show). If you want to crew for the show and have already taken Stagecraft or are currently in Stagecraft, you can add the play as a 7th period. Come to the workshop for more crew details.
Still have questions? Come to the workshop on Monday, and/or email Mrs. Tucker via School Loop.
Break a leg!!!!! And we'll see you at Auditions!
Interested in being involved in the fall play next year?
Auditions for Fall Classes
Auditions for Actors' Repertory class will be May 7 starting at 3pm. Please bring 2 one-minute monologues. They should be contrasting, and demonstrate your acting range. For example, one could be a comedy and one a drama. Or one could be Shakespearean and one more modern. Etc. Please also be prepared to answer questions about your previous theater experience. This class is primarily for students who have completed Drama 1 and Advanced Drama, and/or have been in a play/musical at Capo.
Auditions for Advanced Drama will be May 3rd after school (3pm for current students, 4pm for incoming freshmen). This audition is for anyone who has not taken Drama 1, but has previous experience with Drama (either in middle school, community theater, in plays, or maybe you truly feel like you have a talent for it and you have a genuine interest that goes beyond an introductory course. The only way to get into Advanced Drama is to either take Drama 1, or to audition. Auditions for current Capo students will be at 3pm, and auditions for incoming freshmen will begin at 4pm. Please bring a 2 minute monologue that you have prepared by memorizing and thinking about character motivation. I am looking to see that you can comfortably perform while on stage, and that you are not a complete newbie to the stage.
If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Tucker through School Loop or at firstname.lastname@example.org

Fall Play Auditions
For our Fall Play in 2012, we will be doing...
The Diary of Anne Frank
Auditions: Friday, September 14th 3pm-7pm Meet in C-1.
This is a dramatic play with serious subject matter concerning the Holocaust and World War II. It is an autobiographical play, which means that it is based on the diary of a young girl who actually went through these horrific events. If you have never heard of the play or the book, but intend to audition, do a little research. Any amount will help. :) Remember, we are always looking for new blood, so if you've never auditioned before but have always wanted to, we welcome you with open arms. Or, if you've auditioned multiple times but have never been cast, don't be disheartened! Theater is a tough business, but sometimes it's just a matter of finding the right play and character for you! We welcome you (back) with open arms. :)
The cast includes 5 females, 5 males, and 3 extras (Nazi soldiers). Audition pieces will be available the day before auditions in C-1 or on this site for download. This is not always the case, so make sure that you take advantage of the extra time that you have and really connect with the character. Memorization is not required, but if you've had the piece overnight, it doesn't hurt to show that you've memorized it, while also exploring the depth of the character. Also, when you pick up an audition piece, make sure to pick up the Audition Contract and have your parents sign it. Bring this with you to auditions.
If you have any questions about auditions, please see Mrs. Tucker in C-1 before school, during breaks, or after school. You can find her in C-7 during 2nd period. Or, you can always email her through School Loop or at email@example.com
